What is "Regenerative"?
-
The Sri Lankan coconut cooperative's regenerative philosophy is based on three pillars: 1) nurture social fairness, 2) heal the soil, and 3) cultivate circular economy. Details about each pillar below:
1) Nurture social fairness: The farmers receive fair and stable prices to cover the cost of production and to boost income levels. The cooperative also provides them with interest-free loans for regenerative practices such as land development, intercropping, and irrigation.
2) Heal the soil: Over half of their farmers graze cattle on their coconut estates—converting weeds and grass into manure, stimulating growth of plant roots, and sequestering CO2. Multiple intercrops between coconut trees increase biodiversity, reduce pest pressure, and promote sequestration of CO2.
3) Cultivate circular economy: The by-products generated from the processing operation are used on-site or sold as raw materials for different value additions. Coconut husks are sold to village entrepreneurs to produce fibre and chips for the export market. Coconut shells are used to fire the in-house boiler in a bid to reduce the use of fossil fuel. Seed cake is exported or sold as animal feed. Coconut water is used to produce energy drinks for the export market. Treated wastewater is used for irrigation of vegetable and fruit plots within the factory premises.

We're proud to offer the world's first Regenerative Organic Certified™ chocolate coconut butter! See bottom of page for information on what this means.
This is a craft chocolate coconut butter that serves as a healthy, ethical, and ecological alternative to Nutella. A silky-smooth stone ground mixture of Regnerative Organic Certified coconut, Fair Trade cacao paste, and Fair Trade coconut sugar creates a decadent yet wholesome experience.
Our chocolate coconut butter is stone ground in small batches, making it smooth, creamy, soft, and moist, unlike commercially mass-produced chocolate coconut butters, which are chalky, hard, and dry.
That's because the fat, fiber, and protein is evenly distributed during our 24 hours of slowly stone grinding the product to the point where it is a drinkable molten white gold, which then solidifies at room temperature.
Our non-stone-ground competitors use high-speed, high-temperature metal cutting machines that process thousands of pounds per hour. This results in the oils being unevenly separated, creating the chalky dryness that ruins coconut butter for most people. Also, the coconut butter can become rapidly oxidized or rancid, or contaminated with heavy metals.
The flavor of our coconut butters holds an incredible natural sweetness, which is enhanced by this low-speed, low-temperature stone grinding process. Nothing can beat the quality of small batch, traditionally processed foods!
